Basic Education, Trick Training and Problem Solving ​

Incorporating Hoofs and Paws Positive Behavioural Training
​Positive behavioural reinforcement (reward based) approach
Keeping horses calm, interested and willing. 
​Private lessons (at Rosewood or at client's/horse's home)
Cost is $220 (plus travel charge depending on distance) for introductory session AND follow-up session
Approximately 90 mins each, 1-2 weeks apart.

Subsequent sessions $100

Trick Training
Popular tricks include:
  • Retrieving
  • Bowing
  • Yawning
  • Lying down
  • Liberty 
  • Spanish walk
  • School halt (promotes collection)
  • Balancing on see-saw
  • Colour and shape discrimination​​
Many 'tricks' have practical uses, such as:
  • The 'touch' game (useful for calming anxious horses, gymnastic stretching, bridling head shy horses and in float training)
  • Standing on mats and pedestals (promotes body awareness and balance, and training ground tying and floating)
  • Lining up next to a mounting block
  • Posing/belly lifts to build top line
  • Self carriage/ round posture at liberty
  • Nose on ground/head down (can be cued from distance or from saddle to help calm a nervous horse)
  • Standing square
  • Lining up next to mounting block
  • Opening and closing gates while mounted
