ABOUT
Professional background
Lisel holds an award-winning PhD (1997) in the social sciences. Her undergraduate studies in psychology, specialising in learning and motivation, mean a solid grounding in learning theory for training both animals and people.
Human-animal relations is one of her main interests as a social scientist. She has published many papers and reports in this field, including people's attachment to their animals during bushfires, students' attitudes to chickens after training them with positive reinforcement and the role of pets in preventing loneliness and suicide. Every year she co-teaches the practical workshop on chicken training in the Animal Behaviour, Welfare & Ethics programme at the Roseworthy campus of the University of Adelaide. Teaching students how to train chickens is one of the highlights of her week because it is such fun for students, teachers and chickens alike! More About Lisel |
