Riding Lessons

- Children and adults
- Private lessons only, no group lessons (a lesson with two riders may be permitted for more advanced riders at instructor's discretion)
- Nervous and disabled riders welcome
- Heavier riders (to 120 kg) welcome
- Western or English style saddles available
- Two casual ('taster') lessons available before committing to a regular timeslot.
- One hour or half hour lessons available (half hour suited to children aged 8 or under)
- Lessons include horse care, general horsemanship and groundwork as well as riding
- Back protectors available
- Weekly or fortnightly time slots available (weekly is recommended if possible, for faster progress, better physical fitness and improved muscle memory)
Please note that WE DO NOT OFFER TRAIL RIDING.
Trail riding for regular students only will be offered based on the instructor's judgement of skills mastered and depends on weather conditions and the individual horse and rider combination.
Fees
From January 1, 2024 we are using a term payment system, in keeping with other sports and recreational activities. Prices will remain the same.
Fees are adjusted pro rata for bookings part way through a term. Please call 0412 199 385 to confirm correct amount if you would like to begin lessons after a new term has already started.

Term 1, 2024
Feb 5 - April 12 (10 weeks) - starting one week later than school term

Term 2, 2024
April 29 - July 5 (10 weeks) - finishing one week later than school term

July 22 - Sept 27 (10 weeks)

Cancellation Policy
We cannot fill pre-booked slots at short notice (less than one week). If you have to miss a lesson for whatever reason, ONE make up lesson per rider per term may be available during the same term, but cannot be guaranteed (depending on weather and pre existing bookings of horses). Theory, unmounted and stable management lessons may be provided as make up lessons instead. Otherwise the lesson is forfeited, as stated in our cancellation policy.
Lessons on own horse at own property/agistment
If lessons held at own property:
- Must have enclosed area with good footing
- One hour duration only
- Travel charges additional
- Current or new standard Australian, British or American helmet to be worn
Lessons on own horse at Rosewood
Horses may be floated to Rosewood for lessons.
No charge for use of Rosewood facilities immediately before, during, or immediately after lessons (arena, roundyard, yards, stables, obstacles etc) .

Driving a Harness Donkey

- Small donkey - maximum of two persons in jinker with combined weight not exceeding 170 kg
- Driver and passenger must climb out of jinker to walk up hills
- Drive to main street or in paddocks depending on weather conditions
- Slow pace
- Close attention to fitting and adjusting harness and vehicle
- Suitable for anyone not yet confident with riding larger horses
- $150 for ~90 minute lesson (cost is shared if two persons wish to share a lesson or $400 pre-paid for 3 lessons
