ABOUT
Lisel's Approach to Training
Lisel combines body language, posture and ethology (horsemanship) with positive reinforcement with a bridge or marker, also known as clicker training.
She grew up reading Tom Roberts' 'Horse Control' books cover to cover, over and over again. Other major influences over the last 30 years include the philosophies and work of Tom Dorrance and Bill Dorrance, Mark Rashid, Ray Hunt, John Lyons, Deb Bennett, Paul Belasik, Phillippe Karl, Michel and Catherine Henriquet, James Fillis, Jean Froissard, Jean-Claude Racinet, Karen Pryor and Alexandra Kurland.
Lisel has been using clicker training since the late 1990s. She was one of only three Australians invited by Alexandra Kurland to the first ever clicker training for horses workshop in Saratoga, New York in 2003. Over the last 20 years she has attended other workshops, clinics and conferences with international positive trainers (of all species) including Kayce Covers, Nina Bondarenko, Carolyn Scott, Nicole Wilde, Ian Dunbar and Terry Ryan.
She has presented trick training and liberty riding demonstrations at events including the Channel 7 Pet Expo, the Meadows Spring Fair, the Macclesfield Strawberry Fete, local agricultural shows and the Gawler Horse Festival.
Lisel has been incorporating Straightness Training methods into her training and riding for several years and is currently completing the online course. She has also attended clinics with international trainers including certified ST trainer Elaine Coxon and Nadine Francois.
Lisel has organised and participated in clinics with American and Australian natural horsemanship clinicians who have a softer, tactful and quiet approach, including Mark Rashid, Harry Whitney, Deb Bennett and Lesley Desmond.
